Selection Eligibility & Process

Eligibility Requirements:

Accelerator Lab (AccLab) is a selective event with limited places.
Expressions of Interest (EoI) to participate are open only to Australia & New Zealand directors who have submitted their short film for MIFF programming consideration via FilmFreeway and are ready to transition into feature/long-form filmmaking.

To be eligible to be considered for AccLab participation, applicants should have:

  • Completed their short-film submission to MIFF via FilmFreeway;
  • Feature film/long-form project(s) in development;
  • Working relationship(s) with producer(s), or at least a clear commitment to doing so.
  • Demonstrated commitment to developing their filmmaking career (evidenced, for example, by other film studies, more short films in production/made, and/or screen industry work experience);
  • At least entry-level knowledge of the local and international screen industry and feature film funding, production, distribution, and exhibition mechanisms.

Expression of Interest (EoI):

Once the FilmFreeway submission process is complete, directors who satisfy the above eligibility criteria and wish to be considered for AccLab participation must also send an EoI to submissions@miff.com.au.

The EoI must comprise:

  • the following in the subject line: Accelerator Lab EOI – FirstName, LastName
  • a CV/filmography;
  • a brief write-up of upcoming film/long-form projects (including any producer attachments/interest in these).

Selection Process:

MIFF’s Programming Team will select the hundreds of films in MIFF’s annual program, with AccLab participant selections occurring from those filmmakers selected for screening (who also submitted an AccLab EoI). Final decisions will be at the discretion of MIFF Programmers. Participants will be notified of selection by the end of June.
