ADRIAN WOOTTON TALKS SHAKESPEARE

Presented by MIFF 37ºSouth Market & Accelerator, Adrian Wootton returns exclusively to Melbourne for another series of his acclaimed Illustrated Film Talks, this year focusing on the rich screen legacy of William Shakespeare, who died 400 years ago and is the most filmed author ever with his works having inspired hundreds of screen productions.

ACTING MASTERCLASS: DAVID FIELD

Fresh from his role in the MIFF 2016 Centrepiece Gala Down Under, David Field explores the unique relationship and dynamics between an actor and director in this MIFF Accelerator session. A veteran of Australian film and TV whose early TV credits include Sons & Daughters (1986) and Home & Away (1991), Field has appeared in numerous films from key directors including Gregor Jordan’s Two Hands (1999), Andrew Dominik’s Chopper (2000), Alkinos Tsilimidos’ Silent Partner (2001), Jonathan Teplitzky’s Gettin’ Square (2003), Peter Cattaneo’s Opal Dream (2006), Ivan Sen’s Mystery Road (2013), David Michod’s The Rover (2014), Jeremy Sims’ Last Cab to Darwin (2015) and Zak Hilditch’s MIFF Premiere Fund Supported These Final Hours (2013).



COMPOSING: SETTING THE SCORE

The intricacies of film score composing are explored in this MIFF Accelerator masterclass with acclaimed composer Cezary Skubiszewski. Recognized globally as one of Australia’s most distinguished composers, Skubiszewski’s credits include The Sapphires, Two Hands, Oddball, Blessed, Bran Nue Dae, Red Dog and, most recently, MIFF Premiere Fund-supported Monsieur Mayonnaise.

EDITING MASTERCLASS: SIMON NJOO

Presented by MIFF Accelerator in association with the Australian Screen Editors, the art and secrets of film editing are explored in this masterclass with editor Simon Njoo who edited MIFF Premiere Fund-supported Bad Girl by Fin Edquist, which world premieres at MIFF 2016. Njoo’s other editing credits include Jenninfer Kent’s The Babadook and Stephen Page’s Spear.

CINEMATOGRAPHY: REALISING VISION

Presented by MIFF Accelerator, award-winning Director of Photography Andrew Commis ACS explores the craft of cinematography. Commis, who most recently lensed Girl Asleep (MIFF 2016), has worked across film (including The DaughterThe Rocket, Beautiful Kate and MIFF Premiere Fund-supported The Turning), TV Movies (Underground: The Julian Assange Story and Mabo), TV series (The Slap and Devil’s Playground) and Documentary (MIFF Premiere Fund-supported Celebrity: Dominick Dunne).

PRODUCTION DESIGN: CREATING WORLDS

Fresh from working on the MIFF Premiere Fund-supported MIFF 2016 Opening Film The Death and Life of Otto Bloom, production designer Ben Morieson (Oddball, MIFF Premiere-Fund supported Galore, TV series Lowdown, Hawke and We Can be Heroes) in this MIFF Accelerator session explores how production designers collaborate with directors to bring the world of the film to life.
