The MIFF Premiere Fund-supported debut feature from Melbourne’s Cairnes brothers was winning awards before it was even made.

When three young suburbanites head off to a music festival in the country, a car breakdown is all they need. Thankfully, help is at hand in the form of local organic fertiliser trader Reg, who stops and invites the partygoers to wait for help back at the farm he runs with his brother, Lindsay. But is Reg a good Samaritan or a good businessman? With a big order pending and the brothers seeking to improve their product, will the three youths find themselves pushing up daisies?

After winning numerous awards with their 2010 short Celestial Avenue, Colin and Cameron Cairnes earned top spot in the Slamdance Screenwriting Competition horror category with 100 Bloody Acres. A world premiere featuring Damon Herriman (Laid, Love My Way), Angus Sampson (Summer Coda, MIFF 10) and John Jarratt (Wolf Creek, MIFF 05), and produced by Julie Ryan (Red Dog, MIFF 11) and Kate Croser (Danger 5), 100 Bloody Acres is as hysterically funny as it is horrifyingly gruesome.

Colin and Cameron Cairnes, and Damon Herriman, are guests of the festival. Lee Gambin (Fangoria) will host a Q&A with the filmmakers on Saturday 4 August.
