Tickets are now on sale for this year’s line-up of MIFF 37ºSouth Market & Accelerator public access events, comprising

• MIFF 37ºSouth: Bridging the Gap is the core product of MIFF 37ºSouth Market, a feature film financing market for producers with ‘market-ready’ projects staged in the opening days of MIFF. In its second year, it comprises the following popular elements:

  • Scheduled one-to-one meetings: registered producers with market-ready projects discuss their slates and deepen their relationships with MIFF 37ºSouth Market’s invited local and international film financiers/buyers.
  • Roundtables: facilitated by experienced practitioners and executives, MIFF 37ºSouth Market’s local and international film financiers/buyers meet with small groups of producers and outline what sort of projects they seek and the types of finance they offer.
  • Public panel sessions: moderated by leading professionals, MIFF 37ºSouth Market’s local and international financing guests discuss the pressing film funding issues of the day and outline the latest sales and distribution opportunities. These sessions are free and open to the public.
  • Networking events: mixing registered producers, financiers, government, distributors and sales agents to meet informally and talk about the business of film.

MIFF 37ºSouth Market also comprises:


• MIFF 37ºSouth: Breakthru Screenings: Screenings for invited international and local buyers of selected new Australia/NZ films seeking world sales agents and/or local distribution (plus follow-up meetings with buyers for the producers of these films at 37ºSouth: Bridging the Gap).


• MIFF 37ºSouth: Accelerator Express: A collaboration of 37ªSouth: Bridging the Gap, which is focused on producers with ‘market-ready’ projects, and Accelerator, which is MIFF’s skills and craft development workshops for new Australia/NZ short film directing talent, this initiative ensures the short films of Australia's hottest directing talent of tomorrow are viewed by key financiers and producers via DVD distribution. This initiative also includes partnerships with key film agencies to ensure selection of new directors and producers into MIFF industry programs.

• 37ºSouth’s Books at MIFF (BaM), promotes links and business between publishers, literary agents, film financiers and producers to foster book-to-film adaptations, which comprises:

  • case-study panel discussion on recent adaptations
  • public pitching by publishers / literary agents of up to 10 books they want to see made into films
  • Scheduled one-to-one meetings for publishers/ agents with film producers & financiers
  • Networking events.

• MIFF 37ºSouth: PostScript&Direct enables selected directors and screenwriters  to meet, and pitch to, a range of 37ºSouth: Bridging the Gap’s registered Australian/NZ producers and interest them in their work and skills via a series of one-to-one 15-minute meetings followed by a networking event.

MIFF 37°South Market & Accelerator – Industry & Public Partner Events 2012

Australia's only film co-financing market at a film festival, MIFF 37°South Market once again brings the global film industry to Melbourne in the opening days of MIFF 2012, with up to 100 Australia/NZ producers seeking finance for their scripts pitching to international film financers in Bridging the Gap, publishers pitching their books for screen adaptations to producers in Books at MIFF, and screenwriters/directors pitching their wares in PostScript&Direct. The exclusive Australia/NZ partner of London’s Production Finance Market (PFM), MIFF 37°South Market also features the Breakthru Screenings for films seeking international sales representation.

The MIFF industry unit operates the MIFF Accelerator (www.miffaccelerator.com), Australia's only screen director development program at a film festival, which prepares the hottest short filmmaking talent for a career in feature filmmaking, and the MIFF Premiere Fund (www.miffpremierefund.com), which offers minority co-financing to new local films that will premiere at MIFF.
